D.K. McLeod, KCIE, CB, DSO, is mentioned several times in the text: signalling officer with the Zakka Khel Field Force, 1908; to France with the Lahore Division in 1914 & commanded 3rd Cavalry Brigade in 1920. Individually numbered "Serial No. 301" but total no. produced is unknown to us. Orig. three-qtr. calf, green cloth, claret sp labels, gilt, the leather a little rubbed, stained & worn as always but overall VG, good copy & complete, with contemp. ink ownership inscrip. of "J.C.R. Gannon Major AMS Personal to C in C." (Note: Gannon appointed AMS [Personal] to Lord Rawlinson of Trent, 21/11/1920. He served in the Waziristan Campaign & was Mentioned in Despatches). [HLMainPic] The second & very much scarcer edition of this official account, which "cancels the previous (1921) edition, copies of which should be destroyed." As background the work includes operations 1860-1920, with considerable detail on the little-known 1917 campaign, with valuable orders of battle &c. The edition here offered is presumably amended &/or corrected, as its supersedes the original edition. It should not be confused with the cheaper edition issued without most of the maps & plans. Officers' services &c. (plus rolls of MOs & of officers attached to the regiment during the Great War, with remarks on their services). [HLMainPic] Second instalment of Appleyard's rare privately printed memoirs of service: he explains that: "Regret has been expressed by some old brother officers that [the first part of] my reminiscences... were curtailed, has induced me to add a few episodes..." 80th Ft. in 1850, transfer to the Royal Fusiliers (with whom he served in the Crimea) in 1853 then 85th K.L.I. from 1861. Campaigns included Burma 1852-53, Crimea inc. all main battles. Commanded the 3rd Brigade in the 1st Division of the Peshawur Vallery Field Force under Sir Sam Browne in the 2nd Afghan War, 1878-79. This part includes recollections of the Crimea (in which he was several times wounded) & includes a roll of the officers of the Royal Fusiliers who were wounded during the campaign, with nature & place of wound.
